The InterScan 5539-Series AOI systems feature four angled cameras and one vertical camera. The vertical camera is a high-speed (16 ms) progressive scan unit, specifically designed to produce high system throughput. "The combination of angled and vertical cameras is extremely powerful," Haigh said. "The full power of the angled cameras can be deployed in areas where maximum defect coverage is required- for example, where J-lead or QFP-style devices are used. At the same time, straightforward inspection tasks can be carried out quickly and easily using just the vertical camera. This approach eliminates shadowing issues and simplifies programming." The new InterScan 5539 is supported by Teradyne's Component DESigner (CDES) toolset for offline program development and library customization. CDES is a Windows PC-based software package, giving users access to a standard library of component package models. Users can customize this library to fit their process and defect profile. The user controls the attributes (camera, lighting, algorithm, size, and location) for each window used to inspect each package type. Both systems can run existing InterScan 5519-series programs. The 5539 system comes with a CE mark, SMEMA interface, Ethernet. System Description: InterScan automatic optical inspection (AOI) systems are designed for use by production personnel inspecting pre and post-solder populated printed circuit board assemblies. InterScan can be installed on the shop floor as a stand-alone system for off-line inspection or integrated into the production line and used for in-line inspection. InterScan provides immediate detection and process control feedback. InterScan detects random failures, incipient errors, and process errors, stores defect data by component type and error type, and reports these statistics at any time. InterScan handles even the most complex or dense assemblies - through-hole components, discretes (chips and MELFs), small outline integrated circuits (SOICs), small outline transistors (SOTs), quad flat packs (QFPs), J leaded devices, and more. InterScan Inspectors for the Following Defects: Through-hole lead presence or absence SMD presence or absence Solder presence or absence Solder bridges Excess solder Skewed components Tombstoned components Billboarded components Lifted leads Polarity Surface defects such as solder balls, scratches, foreign material The InterScan 5539 systems use high-resolution, solid-state video cameras to capture images of printed circuit boards following soldering. The cameras are part of an optical test head mounted over a board conveyor system. In addition to the cameras, the test head consists of: A hemispherical lighting system for illuminating the board A strobe laser for measuring board warp (notes in the manual say this was disabled) A precision, X/Y positioning system for moving the test head Video Cameras Description: The InterScan 5539 systems use five miniature video cameras for board inspection. The cameras are CCD solid-state units built for maximum performance. They are positioned to view each board segment from all four ordinal directions and directly overhead. Camera Views: During inspection, cameras photograph the board in squares called views. All five cameras are used in this process, and each view is numbered for reference purposes. Each camera has a resolution of 640 by 480 pixels. Pixel size is determined by the field of view (FOV). Model 5539 is available in four different FOVs however this one uses the C+ version which has a 0.7 x 0.7 FOV in inches with a Pixel Size of 0.00175 in inches. View Overlap: The InterScan systems inspect in a continuous motion mode as opposed to "step and repeat." Each view overlaps the next adjacent horizontal view by 50%. All even view numbers are inspected by cameras 1, 2, and 5, and all odd numbered views are inspected by cameras 3, 4, and 5. This configuration permits all cameras to view each inspection point on the board. View Scanning Sequence: Cameras scan a board in rows, starting from the corner of the board, across the board (parallel to the conveyor), advancing up one view, and back across the board in the opposite direction. A separate scan is performed for each different lighting mode used. The exception to this basic scanning sequence occurs when a board has a component which requires a unique lighting mode. In this case, the system scans just the portion(s) of the board where that component type is present, skipping the "leading" and "trailing" view which do not call for the special lighting mode. $150.00 minimum for packaging, handling, and order processing.
