ViFFF-024 camera a camera board, compatible with the Beagleboard XM (monochrome variant with near infrared capabilities) The most sensitive camera board for the Beagleboard XM on the market. A brand new product. Ideal for engineers, scientists, educators, enthusiasts, students. Oriented toward computer vision applications use. Possible product uses: CCTV, NIR photography or helping hyperspectral image anaysis *, for educational purposes, etc. Ready to work out of the box - no installation difficulties. You are able to develop your C/OpenCV application, from a simple example code. Just plug the camera and the SD card into the Beagle and it functions! Angstrom Linux distribution in the SD-card, working drivers installed. Ready to use with OpenCV installed on the SD card. Small OpenCV based example program helping to begin your own development effort. You can choose also to use even more advanced properties in the sensor by changing the GPL licensed driver by yourself. The sensor (known as Aptina MT9V024 - a variant of MT9V034) is a WVGA (752x480) CMOS 1/3 inch sensor with sensitivity, allowing applications to recognize objects in a video stream even at quarter moon illumination (i.e. 0.1 Lux for 5 fps for the monochrome variant without NIR filter). High dynamic range (> 100 dB), very configurable to an extent where, for most tasks, you don't need external iris for the 0.1 - 60000 Lux range. It is a very low power consuming device even for the embedded world. It is supported by our Media Controller driver for the V3.4 of the Linux kernel. The SD card comes with installed Angstrom Linux, git image of the kernel source code, including the driver. For future use of the camera in a stereo mode, one placed several additional outputs on the board. One must place it carefully in the camera slot - directing it out of the Beagle board XM and aligning it carefully to the slot. Then you can plug the applied microSD card and the cables for the Beagleboard XM and start the Linux - just wait a minute and ... you are in the embedded Linux and able to use the vifffviewer - simple application, based on OpenCV, which you can use as a start point to develop your own computer vision program. In general, the bigger size of the pixel leads to much better sensitivity of the sensor and allows to deeper description of the pixel color/illumination than most of the USB/phone/tablet/camcorder cameras. The 6x6 micron pixel of this camera is requiring 12 bit (!) ADC discretization in the sensor, reduced later to 10bit, through ADC companding technique, and then transferred toward the 1GHz OMAP 3 processor (DM3730) of the Beagleboard XM. There, one could proceed it directly as 16 or 8 bit pixel in the OpenCV environment and program in an easy way Computer Vision applications, taking advantage of the extreme sensitivity of this CMOS camera board. You receive in the box: 1. Camera Board with CS-type lens holder. 2. Near Infra Red transparent lens. 3. miniSD card in order to start immediately your camera. Product of ViSensi.org. Returns are accepted only if the camera board does not work at the start. Shipping is your responsibility as far as is your responsibility to not harm it by plugging it in the wrong direction in the camera port of the Beagleboard XM (the lenses must be directed OUT of the Beagle) and to plug it in a exact way - pin to hole along the whole connector. * providing one adds the appropriate filters as for instance is shown on the site of publiclab.org
