Up for your consideration, we are offering this nice vintage Jacobs Wind Electric wind generator. Dating from the 1940's-50's, This is their 1800 watt, 32 volt DC model, with a 14' blade span. Often called the "Cadillac" of wind generators, and rightly so. The design and overbuilt construction is amazing. The generator unit alone weighs about 400 lbs, with a large copper commutator. The blades are governed by a geared flyweight governor, which has been proven to be very effective and reliable. Blades are sitka spruce, and attach to hub with aluminum casting brackets. I believe the original specs would indicate a cut-in speed of 6 mph, with maximum output at a governed 18 mph, which is a very conservative rating compared to new wind generators, which have their rated output at a higher wind speed. On the Jacobs, the vane does not turn the fan out of the wind, as most cheaper designs do, so you get more power in gusty wind conditions. Control box has original components for a 32 volt system, but as this is an obsolete voltage, I was intending to change a few components to convert it to 24 volts. These can also be converted to 48 volts, with a substantial increase in power output,(2400 watts). Generator unit is in very good condition, commutator not significantly worn, windings have no apparent damage, but they have not been tested electrically. Governor gears have little wear. Blades are in excellent condition, with paint mostly intact. One trailing edge has a couple very minor edge end grain cracks, which need gluing. Some minor hail damage to sheet metal leading edge covers. Tail is in very good condition, original lettering faint but readable for restenciling. Generator end covers have some dents as seen in photos. Is missing the mast and mounting saddle unit, also the hub attaching nut,(these are a special thread). No tower cap or slip ring assembly. Due to size and weight, I am only offering local pickup. Unit is located near Reno, Nevada. Can be picked up in any reasonable time, as long as payment is made at time of purchase. A very nice Jacobs wind generator project. This wind generator was built to last a lifetime. I wish I had the time to finish it myself.
