Vintage Printer's Letterpress Type tray or drawer. California Job Case Style. Metal "Hamilton" Handle. This drawer measures approximately 32 1/8" x 16 5/8". The handle adds another 11/16". Makes a great shadow box. Interior depth of the drawer is about 1 1/8" while the outside depth is 1 3/8" on the sides and back while the front is 1 1/2". The dividers are about 1" tall. This drawer has a Hamilton MFG Maker's mark and "New Departure Patented" (see photo) on the top of the right center frame board. They are nearly worn off. Because of the bottom desing and the style of mark we think that this drawer was made prior to 1900. There is a label holder routed out of the face board. The top slot is not clogged so the holder is usable. See photo. The bottom is Plywood and in good condition. There is some minor splitting and separation on the outside surface of the bottom. The partitions are intact and have minor wear. Note that in the right section the back walls of the compartments have a letter, number or symbol penciled on them (see detail photo). The drawer is very solid structurally. We cleaned the outside of the face with wood cleaner. We cleaned the bottoms of two compartments (one either side of the left center frame board, 2nd row back from the face) with a damp (water) cloth. We did not spend much time on the compartments so a little more aggressive scrubbing or maybe some household cleaner would help. See last photo of "wiped" vs "as found" compartments. We will remove the handle for shipping (we will wrap it and place it in one of the compartments with the two screws). Study the photos as the drawer you see is the drawer you get. An Awesome Drawer!
