Here we offer at auction a vintage Tektronix 453A-4 solid-state oscilloscope.  The model 453, first introduced in 1966, was created to serve the needs of the computer industry, and IBM in specific.  A portable, capable and appropriate scope was needed, and Tektronix answered the call with the original 453.  These were the first portable scopes to have the now-iconic folding locking dual-purpose handle, on which Tektronix actually held a patent for some time.  The first 453s used Nuvistor tubes for some functions and were limited in bandwidth to 50 MHz.  The all-transistor A models (of which this unit is one) are capable of 60 MHz.  These scopes are well known for being sturdy and long-lived, as evidenced by the fact that this unit powers up and displays sweep.  We do not have the capacity to fully test it out or to verify that it is correctly calibrated, which is why it is listed as "parts or repair".  These units today make excellent hobbyist units because they contain no proprietary Tektronix-branded ICs, so parts are not terribly difficult to acquire should the need arise.  The power cord was damaged at some point and the plug replaced with an appropriate heavy-duty plug.
