I purchased this Whisper-cutter in the Summer of 1986 for the purpose of trying to achieve an 8-finish or better on a batch of 316-L 2" x 4". I was able to adjust each of the five "pockets" all within a couple tenths and it worked. This has been sitting in my tool box for 26 years - I could not find any inserts in my tool box, but I used SECO SEAN 42 AFTN HX - these had very a sharp edge and sheared clean and very smooth. There are many current manufacturers that make several styles, grades for most purposes.
