Affordable Binding Equipment "Quality and Integrity have no fear of time." "Affordable" doesn't mean cheaply made, just quality made simply. This is a Lying/Laying Press I build. (I am a self-employed cabinetmaker, over 32 years in the trade). NOTE: This press does NOT have the sloped shoulders like my finishing press. It has square shoulders. But it is the same in every other aspect. See the video on the finishing press ad to see how it works and how the stand goes on. It is made of laminated hardwoods with hard rock maple or birch jaw faces, square shoulders, and is sanded, sealed with Danish oil finish and then waxed. Faces are left unwaxed. You won't find anything like this anywhere else. Handles are hard waxed birch. Screws are 7/16" steel threads. The one you get will be VERY similiar to the one pictured; I use various hardwoods so the one you get may appear slightly different than this one. Dimensions are: Between the screws 15-1/4" Opening size 5" + - Jaw height 3" Please note that the handles turn in opposite directions (one clockwise and the other counterclockwise) to open or close. In order to make this press inexpensive enough for regular folks to buy, it is the only change I made in the traditional design, and I think it is actually easier to use. Also provided is a stand that allows the book to stand free of the table. From the table to the top of the press is 9". This stand is removable for storage or to use the press alone. See video for how to attach the stand. I also offer a bookbinding plough that will work with this or any lying press. I guarantee you will be satisfied with the quality of this lying press. There aren't many styles of lying presses available; none have a stand and all the prices are high. So for the price, this is an exceptional value.
