The Breda Fowl is a combless, medium to large fowl, with a well-developed breast, strong thighs, long feathered legs, and gorgeous prominent vulture hocks. Their back is slightly sloping, with a short well arched neck; long strong head, a stout well curved beak, and, of course, no comb! A tassel or small tuft of feathers (usually very small) rises from the head at the rear of the flat depressed area where the comb should be. Bredas also have large cavernous nostrils like those usually found in crested breeds, reminiscent of a crow. This is why they are called Breda or "Crowhead" in Dutch. The most striking coloration is the Blue Breda. In this variety, the Breda roosters display remarkable two-tone feathering; deep blue on top, light blue chests with dark blue lacing. Like any blue breed, breeding blue to blue results in 50% blue, 25% splash and 25% black. (See chart below). Only small flocks of Breda still exist on any continent, making them extremely rare. I obtained my group from Greenfire Farms, who imported them from unrelated european stock. Bredas produce prolific amounts of medium to large sized white eggs. Most of all, Breda are a fun breed to own! You will gain endless compliments and “what are those!” comments with Breda's gracing your yard. I recommend them to all fanciers of rare and exotic fowl! I do not wash my eggs - this destoys the natural protective coating. Boxes are oversized and well padded and insulated. Even though I have a great hatch rate – I cannot guarantee your hatch rate. My shipment time is generally within a few days of receiving cleared payment.
