Isthmus Scientific specializes in tested, second-hand, laboratory equipment. Joe Beck (the manager) has a Ph.D. in cellular an molecular pathology and has additional experience in biosensors and drug development. He got into business originally as a buyer to furnish his biotech start-up, but before he knew it, he had fallen into the second-hand, lab-equipment business. This listing includes 1 DCU touch fermentation control tower and 1 Biostat B-DCU tower with mixing motor and required connection cables. This listing does NOT include probes or fermentation vessel. Additional Biostat B-DCU towers are available (see our other listings). Basically, fermentation is controlled from the touch screen controls. The pH, dissolved oxygen, temperature and level probes plug into the DCU touch tower. The touch tower controls the Biostat B-DCU tower which uses its pumps to add base, acid, or gas (air, CO2, N2 and O2 each have independent controls so complicated gas mixtures can be used). The Biostat B-DCU tower also controls the cooling system and has an integrated heater (but requires an external chiller). A single DCU touch control tower can operate up to 4 Biostat DCU towers. With such a configuration (1 control tower plus 4 Biostat DCU towers) a user can operate 4 independently controlled fermentation reactions.
