For your consideration, I am offering this Civil Defense CD V-750 Model 5b dosimeter charger with one Civil Defense CD V-742 dosimeter. The dosimeter charger was manufactured by the Industrial Electronic Hardware Corporation. The dosimeter was manufactured by Bendix. The These were manufactured for the United States Department of Defense, Office of Civilian Defense. They were distributed to municipalities and schools across the United States for preparation and training during the Cold War. A time when tensions between the United States and the Soviet Union were high and a neuclear war was a possibility. These items were stored in nuclear fallout shelters and used in schools to teach students about nuclear radiation and how to use radiation monitoring instruments. These items came from the Maricopa County, Arizona Department of Emergency Management. Most likely it came from somewhere in the Phoenix Metro area. Conditionally both are in good cosmetic condition. There are very few minor chips, scratches and scuffs in the paint. The inside of the dosimeter charger is very clean, and has NO corrosion from leaking batteries. The dosimeter charger functions as it should. The light works and I can zero adjust the dosimeter pen with the scale adjustment knob. The spare light bulb is still present. I can not fully function test the dosimeter pen as I do not have a radioactive source large enough. I can tell you the hair line does move when placed on the charger and the scale adjustment knob is turned. I would consider the pen to be just a display piece. I would personally be scared if you live close enough to a radioactive source to get the dosimeter pen to measure. They did manufacture a dosimeter pen for training purposes that would measure normal background radiation. I believe it was the CDV-138. The dosimeter charger requires one D size battery to operate. The battery is not included.
