This listing is for one (1) Eberline PIC-6A Portable Ion Chamber. We have six (6) available. The Eberline Pic-6A is a battery powered (2 x 9V, not included) handheld radiation detector consisting of an ion chamber and an analog meter with logarithmic output. It reads output from 1 millirad to 1000 millirad or 1 rad to 1000 rads; a rotary switch powers the device and toggles the operating range. It registers Gamma and (with the Beta window open) Beta radiation and has been used at Brandeis University to measure high level X-Ray emissions. Strictly speaking, this is a Radiation Survey Meter, not a Geiger Counter. Its range - from 1mR to Death, is better suited to enabling the user to avoid fatally irradiated areas than to prospecting or examining low level sources like Fiestaware or the check sources sold on ebay. If you're looking for a more general Geiger or Ratemeter, please check our other listings for several excellent machines. All machines are in good cosmetic condition, with scuffs, scratches, magic marker, sticker residue etc. All are tested to pass a Battery Check, but are otherwise untested due to lack of a sufficiently powerful source of radiation and us not being stupid enough to go anywhere near such a source. All are guaranteed to pass the battery check, but otherwise sold as-is, with no guarantee of operability or calibration. Beware of static on the plastic face of the meter, which can make the needle behave erratically. Mild static can be cleared by gently wiping the "glass" with a damp cloth - for more heavy static, an anti-static dryer sheet or anti-static spray may be required. Some meters are all grey, some grey and beige. Some have blooming on the metal inside, that looks like a battery leak but may not be. You will receive one meter, from the six pictured in the last two photos, selected at random. If you want a particular color scheme, please ask: we will accommodate you if we have it in stock, but can not guarantee that we will be able to. These are the cheapest ones on ebay - don't let yours get away!
