This is a Schonstedt MAC-51B Magnetic / Pipe & Cable Locator system. These are used in various industries to locate and trace underground objects (ferrous, wires, pipes, etc) without the need for digging. This unit is partially functional, please read and understand description before bidding. All components are in fair condition with scuffs, scratches, marks and wear from normal field usage. The speaker in the receiver was replaced by me, the original one was non-functional. The transmitter operates off of 8 standard C-Cell batteries (not included). It powers on and beeps continuously as it should. The receiver operates off of 4-standard C-Cell batteries (also not included). When the receiver is turned on and placed in "C"able tracing mode, the receiver properly picks up the signal from the transmitter. The receiver also features a 1/4" headphone jack which was tested and working as well. The receiver also features another mode known as "Magnetic" mode, this mode does not appear to be functioning properly. When this mode is activated, the speaker blares loudly no matter where it is placed. Normally, it should only blare at a high-pitch when it is placed near ferrous objects. Sometimes the sound will tone down, but for the most part it does not detect ferrous objects properly. Cable Tracing mode is the only mode which appears to be working on this setup which is why this auction is listed as "parts/repair". If all you need is pipe/cable tracing, then this unit will work perfectly for you. If you need a survey pin/manhole locator, this unit will not work for you.
