Grey  AMERICAN OPTICAL (AO)  Model 40RT Stereo Microscope  with  Incident and Transmitted Lights (Dual lighting stand) Provides sharp images (see photograph) __________ This microscope is supplied, as are all Greenough stereomicroscopes, with dual porro prisms. The Greenough stereomicroscope is named after its American inventor Horatio Saltonstall Greenough.  The microscope has two dual matched 10x widefield eyepieces.  It includes a fixed objective. The stereomicroscope includes two built-in lamps to use with either transmitted (transparent specimens) or incident illumination for opaque objects. These lamps can be used individually or simultaneously. The rotating switches for each form of illumination are located on the sides of the stand. Looking from the front, the transmitted light switch is located on the left side, and the incident light switch on the right. The transmitted light is working, but the incident light is not, perhaps needing a new bulb. The picture shown through the microscope was lit with external illumination. This stereomicroscope comes with a transparent glass plate. This Series from AO has permanent optical alignment and inclined binocular tubes. It includes wide field eyepieces. It allows for interpupillary distance changes over a wide range.  This stereomicroscope weighs approximately 8 pounds 0.6 ounces. It is approximately 14-1/4 inches tall in working position, as shown. It has a large working distance of about 4 inches. The stand allows for a variety of objects with differing heights to be examined. The body raises, on its stand, to an overall height of about 17 inches.  The picture, seen through this microscope is the face of President Lincoln on the front of a USD $5 bill. The bill is not included in this sale. To quote from the AO (tm) Series Forty Reference Manual, "The optical system of the AO Series FORTY Stereomicroscopic Microscope is corrected both spherically and chromatically. A unique four reflection erecting and inclining system and wide field, long eye relief eyepieces are also utilized to yield a sharp, clear, erect stereoscopic image on the full field of view."  This is highly capable stereomicroscope in nice condition from a well-regarded maker.                                                          ______________________________ The American Manufacurer: American Optical (AO) (American Optical is now part of the Leica Group along with Bausch and Lomb, Leitz, Reichert, and Wild Heerbrugg)  __________                                 No need for concern about stock pictures not matching the item for sale.                               PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE ACTUAL ITEMS FOR SALE  These pictures are part of this listing, and we hope they can answer most questions.  However, please feel free to ask any questions you may need answered to make an informed decision.
