SWIFT M20T Tecnar Greenough Stereomicroscope (stereo microscope) with Two Matched 15x Eyepieces It is supplied, as are all Greenough stereomicroscopes, with dual porro prisms. The Greenough microscope is named after its American inventor Horatio Saltonstall Greenough. The microscope, both by weight and size, is a field portable instrument. Its weight makes it easy to carry on a field trip, as it weighs approximately 3 pounds 2.2 ounces. Its size makes also makes it appropriate for a portable, with an approximately 8-1/2 inches tall working position. It has a weighted 4-1/2 inch base, and a relatively large, about 4 inches in diameter, white stage plate. The microscope is attached to an approximately 6-1/4 inch stand, with about a 5-1/2 inch pole. This configuration allows the microscope to be used with a variety of object heights and widths. The picture of an image, seen through this microscope is of the eye of Ben Franklin on a US $100 bill. Owing to size differences between the eyepiece exit lens, and the entrance lens of the camera used, the image seen here is more enlarged, i.e., a smaller section, then that seen visually. Theimage in the photograph, is probably less than 3/4th of the image seen visually though the eyepieces. The bill is not included in this sale. One eyepiece lens allows for independent adjustment of diopters, to accommodate for differences in visual acuity between left and right eyes. It can be adjusted to accommodate varying interpupillary distances.
