OLYMPUS VMT 1x-2x Stereo Microscope (stereomicroscope) with Outstanding Olympus GWH10x/23 Eyepieces __________ It is supplied, as are all Greenough stereomicroscopes, with dual porro prisms. Note engraved ID on top outside of right porro prism. The Greenough microscope is named after its American inventor Horatio Saltonstall Greenough. Picture through stereomicroscope shows portion on front of USD $100 note, with Ben Franklin's eye and anti-counterfeiting strip. Asian Manufacturer: Olympus Olympus began making steromicroscopes in the 1930s, although the name Olympus had been used on non-stereo microscopes since 1921 (Bracegirdle, 1996). Their first stereomicroscope was the XA Binocular Stereo Microscope, c. 1933. It was a Greenough-style instrument with three pairs of objectives and a maximum magnification of 48x. Olympus continued to make stereomicroscopes both before and after WW II.
