VICKERS INSTRUMENTS Greenough-style, Triple Turret Stereo Microscope with Incident and transmitted light Base   This tan Vickers Instruments stereomicroscope with black transmitted light base comes with two matched 7x eyepieces.  It has a triple objective turret, with objective markings of 2.5x, 3.5x, and 10x (on the longest objective). Multiplying the eyepiece magnifications by the objective designations yields: 17.5x, 24.5, and 70x. It is supplied, as are all Greenough stereomicroscopes, with dual porro prisms. The Greenough microscope is named after its American inventor Horatio Saltonstall Greenough. This microscope, with its three objectives attached, is substantial, and weighs approximately 12 pounds 7.4 ounces. The microscope comes with dual substage mirrors to illuminate each of the optical paths in the Greenough design. The dual substage mirror is shown in the third photograph. Dual illumination on stereomicroscopes was first introduced by Professor Riddel back in 1853, and continues to be used. The position of the dual mirrors are can changed via the adjustment controls on both the right and left side of the transmitted light base.  This stereomicroscope is approximately 12.5 inches tall in working position. Its working distance at 2.5x is approximately 2-3/4 inches. Its base, at widest point, is approximately 6-1/2 inches. The microscope comes with a British power plug, expected considering its origin. Fortunately, this plus can be adapted, with appropriate adaptor, to US power. The stereomicroscope is supplied with a large frosted glass stage plate.  The last picture is the detail at 2.5x of one of the two eyes on the Banco De Espana, Cinco Milpesetas bank note. Perhaps because of its excellent quality (see detail picture), this Vickers Instruments stereomicroscope rarely comes to market.  ______________________________  This stereomicroscope was made by British manufacurer Vickers Instruments __________      No need for concern about stock picture matching the item for sale.  PHOTOGRAPH OF THE ACTUAL ITEM FOR SALE   These pictures are part of this listing, and we hope they can answer most questions.  All items included in this sale are shown.
